Film Description
Byrne is Finney's loyal right-hand man in an absorbing tale of Irish-American gangsters drawn into a war with a rival Italian gang in 1929. Laced with trademark brilliantly quirky dialogue, this is one of the consistently inventive Coen brothers' finest - entertaining and stylish, with an enjoyably twisting plot and superb characters.

With "Millers Crossing," the Coen brothers bring their own particular vision to the gangster movie. (And not only vision; their creative editing extends to the use of the soundtrack, as with the recurring motif of the creaking pines). All the trappings are here - limos with running-boards, machine guns, the moll, the hats...especially the hats. Above all, in the words of Johnny Caspar, its about "Friendship, character...ethics."
