Fidelio (Hall)

Film Description

A production of Beethoven's 'Fidelio' from the Glyndeboure Festival Opera in 1979. Bernard Haitink conducts the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Fidelio's plot is akin to a great Shakespeare lover's comedy, with cross-dressing, love triangles, and betrayal. Through it all though, there is an undercurrent of the fight for freedom and liberation that gives the opera a resounding dramatic power.
