The CrematorJuraj Herz, 1968 Film DescriptionThis has been described as a 'surrealist-inspired horror' and an expressionist fantasy. It's certainly one of the darker films to come out of the Czech New Wave. Set in the 1930s, it's based around the character of Kopfrkingl, the cremator of the title, a man obsessed with his job to the point of insanity, believing that cremating people is a way to free them for the afterlife, an attitude that allies him well with the occupying Nazi party.
