Star Review
In 1969, Hopper, Peter Fonda and Jack Nicholson changed the face of Hollywood with this seminal counterculture classic. Ushering in a new wave of anti-heroes and introducing mainstream audiences to sex n’ drugs and rock n’ roll, Easy Rider’s influence spread throughout the Hollywood of the seventies, establishing a climate of progressive film-making that now stands as Tinseltown’s last Golden Age. Easy Rider’s iconic images and soundtrack still resonate with an exhilarating ‘freedom’, and, although very much a product of 1969, the film has achieved a timeless appeal that grows richer with each passing year. This Special Edition set also features Easy Riders, Raging Bulls – a documentary based on Peter Biskind’s coruscating study of how Hopper and the Movie Brats “saved Hollywood”– as well as a wealth of extra material.

THE counter culture classic that is now going higher and higher in critics' estimation. Famously reviewed by Leslie Halliwell in one of his indispensable guides as attracting "freakishly large" audiences. He was spot on - it opened up a crack in American cinema through which (albeit briefly) a new generation (Scorsese, Coppola, Demme, Spielberg, De Palma, Bogdanovich et al) scrambled headlong through. The decade of great cinema that followed has been unmatched in modern times. We have a lot to thank Hopper, Fonda and Nicholson for! Available in a sparkling new DVD boxset print in the UK via MM which is really too good to miss film fans! < less
