A selection of comedies from the north of England. Features The Gay Dog (Maurice Elvey, 1954), The Penny Pool (George Black, 1937) - a comedy from the Mancunian Film Corp., Stick 'em Up and School for Randle (John E. Blakeley, 1949).

The Gay Dog is a comedy set around the professional dog-racing scene. Jim and Maggie Gay own a greyhound, "Raving Beauty" and race him at the local dog-track. When competition comes from a mystery dog that is entered in the big dog race at an out-of-town track, there is far more to the situation than meets the eye. Petula Clark stars as the Gays' daughter, Sally, object of affection between Jim's friend Peter and the son of the local vicar.

In School for Randle, Lancastrian comic Frank Randle plays a school caretaker whose adopted daughter runs away to make her name in showbiz.
