Review by Pasquale Iannone on 5th July 2004 A true pioneer in the development of the aesthetics of film, Jean Renoir worked ceaselessly during the 1930s. His fourteen films, from La Chienne (1931) to La Règle du Jeu (1939) served as an inspiration to a host of young filmmakers, among them Luchino Visconti and Orson Welles.
