The Blue Angel (1930), Josef von Sternberg's tale of a mild manner professor sucked into the world of a licentious cabaret artist introduced the world to an immortal legend - Marlene Dietrich.

Munchausen (1943), Josef von Baky's AGFA-hued masterpiece, epitomised the new, state sanctioned, German epic. Vivid and imaginative, it has inspired generations of fantasy film-makers.
