Film Description

Three escaped Allied PoWs - an English major, an American pilot and a Russian sergeant - take refuge in the home of a Roman black marketeer, whose communist lover is executed when they are betrayed by a corrupt, Nazi-collaborating priest. The film is notable for Rossellini's use of camerawork, especially his long takes in which movement of characters replaces an edited division of shots.
