Filmed in Provence, this film (and its sequel Manon des Sources) is an intricate study in man’s cruelty to man. Yves Montand and his almost-idiot son Daniel Auteuil stop the water flow to Gerard Depardieu’s land, an act that brings down almost Biblical tragedy.
