One of the few great sequels, Manon des Sources is better known these days as the film that launched Emmanuelle Beart upon an unsuspecting world, as Manon, the carefree yet vengeful daughter of Jean de Florette. It is this marriage of the carefree (Beart’s naked dance among the goats) and the vengeful (Auteuil sitting by the fireside sowing the red carnation to his chest) that makes Manon des Sources so remarkable.
